I like dungeons that radiate out from a central point. Aberbec’s Descent is centred around a massive stone staircase that descends around the outside of a wide circular cave. At various points along the descent there are four different caves that reach out from the centre, at four different elevations – a mix of natural caves and tooled stonework.

Aberbec’s Descent

Used correctly, descents like Aberbec’s Descent provide a sense of imminence to the evils below. You know going in that there is probably no other way out, and something truly horrible is probably waiting for you somewhere down there.

Aberbec’s Descent was drawn in a single draft using a 0.7mm black gel pen on a 4 x 6 inch mapping book. If you like maps like this, check out Dyson’s Delves, a book of adventures and maps like this.
