I’m back! Happy Canada Day, and an early Happy Independence Day for the American heathens who read my motley blog.
This map is of a small palace either currently or previously inhabited by an underdark race such as the drow. The fortress is a home away from the city where the central members of the family would move to during times of boredom or when they needed to hide family members from the politics of the city.
The fortress as drawn is no longer in use by the drow in question – either because it is out of season, or for more sinister reasons. Either way, someone has smashed open the gates and probably plundered the contents.
The fortress is along a minor underdark passage, and has three points of access – the smashed fortress gates, the guard tower that overlooks the passage from a height of 20 feet, and the secret exit just around the corner from the gate.
The main courtyard of the fortress is mostly natural stone, and a tunnel leads to a ledge 30 feet above floor level where archers would typically be on guard when the fortress is in use. Also in the courtyard is a fresh water source, the reason why the fortress was built here. The fortress itself is a small set of guardrooms and quarters for the residents, as well as a secret escape tunnel that is probably untouched – including the store room for supplies probably required during an escape.
