Today, inspired by the fortified wall yesterday, we have an actual fortress in the dungeon. Approaching the fortress from the North is probably a bad idea unless you know the owners, or carry some heavy spell-artillery with you.

Today we have two secret entrances into the village, and the corner of a fortified structure (or just a fortification built to separate the village from the depths of the dungeon, depending on what’s on the next geomorph).

I think I liked doing the natural caves more than the dungeon corridors in the past few weeks, so this week I’m trying my hand at “underground living” – areas where dwarves or gnomes or some other race have built actual buildings inside larger caves. Small fortresses, towns, villages and so on will be the [...]

This week was all about weird hallways that turn, twist, bend and are decorated with columns, tapestries and statues.

More fun curving hallways, a room with a pool in it, and one random column.

A lowered room with a small dais (an altar perhaps?), a funky corridor with columns, and a secret door thrown in for kicks.

A sunken central arena theme for this one with four balconies that overlook the arena (and one secret passage to get from one of them to the arena floor). And now with bonus pit traps!

Another one of the “big corridor crosses the geomorph” (with bonus tapestries and statues) as the start for this one. I also like the odd-ball corridor on the upper left with the big tapestries and three decorative columns (or are they essential support structures? Let’s knock them down in a major fight and find out!).

Geomorph 2 in the “interesting hallways”. I’ve generally tried to avoid symmetry in the geomorphs (because it seems to be the first thing I want to do when I started mapping a 10×10 area) so there’s a reason to randomly determine which of the 8 entrances is used. This is probably the most symmetrical one [...]

I started this geomorph with the snaking corridor. I think I’ll go with the theme of “interesting hallways” for this week.

The theme this week was caverns and the maps are a collection of natural caves, some with man-made (or perhaps inhuman) accessories – a strange ziggurat to explore, a few old statues, and a secret underground lake.

Partially inspired by the pond in geomorph 4c, and partially by the latest Harry Potter movie, this geomorph features a small underground lake. But none of the caves entering the geomorph actually can see the main lake – just a shore of it. You have to go underwater to get to the central location and [...]
