This is the second bait and switch with the gorgon that I can recall. At some point, just to balance the karma, you may consider actually including a gorgon. =)
Another possible use: this would make a great base for PCs.
Nice map. I see it as the lair of some local bandits who’ve taken over an abandoned dig, with maybe the door in the large room leading to the lower tunnel becoming a secret door that was never found, leading to… ?
And I really like your use of the 3rd dimension, not only with rooms higher and lower than others, but passages that pass underneath others. It gives a more believable feel to the lair.
Dyson, once again you make my jaw drop from the awesomeness of your distinctly characteristic style of mapping! So much detail and dimensionality in this one. I am particularly fascinated with the “upper” passage that would arch over the entrance tunnel, as well as the series of shallow steps leading from the cavern. I would utilize this wonderful place as a Warder’s/Ranger’s outpost; used much the same fashion as the one in the LOTR movie “The Two Towers”.
The only change I might implement would be the inclusion of a small “camouflaged” tunnel from main chamber used to make one’s escape via another smaller chamber and out to a hidden “backdoor”.
Nice map, as always! I especially like the front bedroom. This cavern cries out for a truly hellish multistage ambush. On the bait & switch theme, you should do a map called the Hall of the Hot Chicks and then stock it with medusae (or maybe succubi).
