The Grand Ruins was a megadungeon project for a three month Labyrinth Lord / Advanced Edition Companion game I ran set in my standard Adventures in the Fallen Empire setting. The overview map (above) exists to help orient your view of the environment and the multiple mini-dungeons available for exploration.

I didn’t end up mapping out the whole place as the game ran out of time before it was completed. I also ended up scrapping one of the locations completely (the gatehouse in the bottom middle of the map).

The first location the players investigated was the keep, as goblins came pouring out of it when they arrived on the scene, and they needed a place to bunk down their church and clan provided armies (they had 50 men from the church and another 25 dwarves from one of the dwarven clans provided to help them re-establish the ancient citadel).

The keep is the set of three towers on the west side of the map. The full map is below.

There are three secret areas attached to the keep – from which a few badguys turned up later in the adventure (effectively whenever I really wanted to poke the party just as they were coming back from a run that was too easy in other sections of the dungeon). The last of which is a secret stairwell into a deeper dungeon section that we never explored,and thus was never mapped – but is a perfect place to throw in any of the other dungeons I’ve posted here over the years.
