Map of Kreland’s Ford – A Fantasy Village

The village of Kreland’s Ford would be of little note but that it is one of the two crossings on the Pursane River that doesn’t require a boat. The village and river crossing would be a key strategic holding for the human nations on either side of the Pursane, but has managed to maintain its independence for centuries, only held by either nation for short periods during times of war.

This week’s Friday Map (and the next few) are drawn from my Adventures in the New Kingdoms Atlas – a journal where I draw and detail various parts of my campaign setting while on public transit or in waiting rooms for various appointments. As always, these maps are single-draft creations in black pen – but the quality is often inferior to the other maps I draw because they are made in motion or while sitting in akward waiting rooms.

The defenders of Kreland’s Ford are not the townfolk, but elementals of the river and hills of the ford who rise up to defend the town and who render the ford impassable when then village is occupied by military forces.

The ancient Kale hero Kreland made thsi pact witht he local spirits and elementals, using Kale magics and an artifact he had recovered in the hills to the north of town. Now that the Kale are defeated and villified, the village is “officially” named with human titles by both neighbouring nations, btu the rest of the New Kingdoms and the village itself still honour the long-dead elven hero with the name of Kreland’s Ford.
