Revised Mazes and Minotaurs

Ah, Mazes and Minotaurs. The game that asks “what if the first RPG had been inspired by Jason & the Argonauts instead of the Lord of the Rings?”. It is available in two editions and is downloadable for free from the Mazes and Minotaurs website. Purely because I couldn’t find a picture of the cover of the first edition of M&M, this character is created for the second edition (akin to Advanced Dungeons & Dragons as compared to the original White Box edition).

A big fan of the source material, I have a hard time deciding on the class for my first character in this system.

I hover over Elementalist and Centaur for a while, but finally settle on Spearman. Rolling 2d6+6 six times I get 12, 14, 13, 12, 15 and 17 – a pretty solid set of stats with no weaknesses (actually a little on the boring side…) As a spearman I have to place the highest two rolls in Skill & Will, and place the others as I please.

From these stats we get Anaxophon’s bonuses to Melee, Missile, Initiative, Defense and Hits. Another 2d6+15 roll sets Anaxophon’s age as 23. With one more roll to determine starting funds, the character is complete, requiring only a bit of background. In this case, Anaxophon, although not a noble, is the son of a lesser Trojan noble who took up the spear in defense of his home and lands. He’s a good and brave young man, likeable and lacking any true weakness. He is already known in the city-state of Troy for his high level of skill, and is expected to come back from this adventure as a great warrior indeed.
